About: About Us

ARTIST STATEMENT

I am a maker, mover, student, and teacher. I have a passion to connect with others through the memories that capture us as well as the fleeting moments that exist fully in feeling and sensation. Within I hold an overflowing heart with strength and a structure of composure to share. I look forward to discovering more about that structure and rebuilding it with those I meet to find harmony within contradictions.
As a student, I am constantly looking at those who I admire in and out of the field of dance for inspiration. Some of those people include Kendra Portier and Ani Javian. Kendra Portier is someone I admire as a maker, mover, and teacher. Her authenticity in her movement that is both languid and bold is a combination that continues to draw me in. Additionally, the way she teaches and speaks to those around her is genuine and honest allowing the room to be at ease and move forward.
Ani Javian is a teacher and mentor who has had a great influence on how I would like to work. Her fearlessness in working through the body in improvisational structures opened my movement up to many more possibilities than what my mind could find for itself. She showed me that allowing the body to take the lead and to explore felt states opens greater opportunity to then find dynamics and begin to contextualize what the dance is revealing to me.
As a creator, I am currently invested in the moments that capture people. I am exploring movement that reflects on the way life happens, shifts in space and time, and then continues happening. I recognize what my past gives in strength and structure, understand that the present begins to deconstruct that of what was once there, and then give all of that to the future to rebuild.
I believe that dance and artistry are the vehicles that keep me moving forward in my life in all compartments it be emotional, physical, mental, etc. These modes of transport allow me to catch and release tension, to share, and to bask in contradictions. They allow me to discover who I am today as well as who I might become tomorrow and say hi to her.
